After a summer break it's already time for a reminder for the next Gardening Book Club meeting. It will be Thursday, September 19, 7 - 8 p.m. at the Yellow Springs Library. We will be discussing the book, "Whitewash: The Story of a Weed Killer, Cancer, and the Corruption of Science" by Carey Gillam. Below is an excerpt from the Goodread's review:
"It’s the herbicide on our dinner plates, a chemical so pervasive it’s in the air we breathe, our water, our soil, and even found increasingly in our own bodies. Known as Monsanto’s Roundup by consumers, and as glyphosate by scientists, the world’s most popular weed killer is used everywhere from backyard gardens to golf courses to millions of acres of farmland. For decades it’s been touted as safe enough to drink, but a growing body of evidence indicates just the opposite, with research tying the chemical to cancers and a host of other health threats. "
E-books and audio books are available from the library. Multiple copies of print books are available through Search Ohio and Ohio Link and can be ordered via the library's website. Heads up! Be sure you order the correct book. There are several titled "Whitewash".
The Gardening Book Club is a project of the Yellow Springs Local Food Group.
