Land Access Workshop

The Land Access Workshop series supports equitable land access for beginning growers, farmers and land stewards. This four-part series provides practical tools, information, and guidance in the planning process for finding and acquiring land, and prioritizes reducing barriers for farmers who face systematic discrimination. Using a combination of presentation, guest speakers, individual and small group activities, this four-part series will offer on-the-ground approaches to finding and financing land, leasing and purchasing land, and assessing land.

The fourth workshop will take place at Agraria on October 16. During this session, participants will understand the key components of a land assessment, and the tools, resources and contacts for conducting a parcel evaluation. The first three sessions will take place in Central, Ohio:

At Workshop 1, participants learn about the different potential paths for land access options and the different considerations with each, clarify their personal and business goals and identify how these factors affect land access opportunities.

Workshop 2 focuses on financial considerations when access land and learning about mechanisms and tools to find available land. Participants will create a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement to determine their current financial position and learn about potential funders or lending options.

Workshop 3 prepares participants for leasing and purchasing land, including how to work with landlords or landlords, hidden costs and considerations, and elements of a good lease or land contract.

Details: The first three workshops locations will be in-person in Central, Ohio. The last workshop will be held in person at the barn at Agraria Center for Regenerative Practice. Location addresses will be emailed to participants.

Cost and Registration: $25 per workshop, $100 for all four. All proceeds from registration for this event will go directly to the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio (NAICCO). Visit naicco.com to learn more about NAICCO’s work and mission.
